THE country’s agriculture producer price index (PPI) posted a faster annual decline in the first quarter (Q1), the Philippine Statistics Authority reported late Tuesday.

The PPI tracks price changes in goods and services at the producer level.Agriculture PPI fell 13 percent, steeper than the 2.2-percent drop in Q4 2025, and 2 percent from a year earlier. Quarter on quarter, it slipped 4.8 percent, reversing a 0.5-percent increase in Q4 2025.CropsLikewise, the crops subindex posted a faster annual decrease of 14.4 percent in Q1 from 3.7 percent in Q4 2025 and 4.3 percent in Q1 2025.Four of eight commodity groups saw sharper year-on-year declines: condiments (-32.5 percent from -5.9 percent), leafy vegetables (-24.4 percent from -18.1 percent), fruits (-20.9 percent from -3.0 percent) and commercial crops (-24.6 percent from -5.5 percent).Beans and legumes swung to a 1.8-percent annual decrease from a 0.2-percent increase in Q4 2025, while fruit vegetables saw a slower annual decline of 13.0 percent, easing from 13.9 percent.Cereals and root crops bucked the trend: cereals rose 17.1 percent year on year, reversing a 10.5-percent decrease in Q4 2025, while root crops climbed 14.6 percent, up from 1.0-percent growth in the previous quarter.Quarter on quarter, crop PPI fell 6 percent, reversing a 1.2-percent increase in Q4 2025.Livestock and poultryThe livestock and poultry index dropped 12.2 percent year on year in Q1, reversing a 4.1-percent growth in Q4 2025 and 9.6-percent growth in Q1 2025.Livestock prices fell 13 percent and poultry 11 percent, both reversing gains of 3.8 percent and 5.1 percent, respectively, in the previous quarter.FisheriesFisheries PPI declined 6.2 percent year on year, steeper than the 1.1-percent drop in Q4 2025 and the 2.6 percent in Q1 2025.Marine municipal fisheries saw a faster annual decline of 9.3 percent, from 6.6 percent in the previous quarter, while inland municipal fisheries swung to a 21.7-percent annual decrease from 10.8-percent growth in Q4 2025.Aquaculture growth slowed to 0.2 percent from 1.4 percent.Commercial fisheries, meanwhile, posted a 0.6-percent annual increase, reversing a 1.6-percent decline in Q4 2025.Quarter on quarter, fisheries PPI rose 1.6 percent, recovering from a 0.1-percent decrease in Q4 2025.
